Train Pain Free For The London Marathon

With the Virgin London Marathon fast approaching, the amount of runners on the road is increasing and increasing. These cold winter’s mornings and wet evenings are no fun to run in, however these upcoming weeks are the perfect opportunity to prepare yourself for the big day! However training can often have bumps in the road, without appropriate planning and thought process. Too much too soon can leave you damaging your body ahead of the big event, which is the last thing you want. You need to be hitting your straps coming into April to give your best shot at the marathon.

This is where functional training comes in. Functional training for runners is providing a platform for your running performance to improve whilst increasing your muscular strength, improving running gait, increasing your mobility and prevention of injury! At NRG we offer 1 - 1 personal training sessions which are all tailored for your personal development and performance. If you want to learn more then feel free to see our personal training packages where we now offer a complimentary first session!

But are you using functional training in your marathon preparation? Or are you simply hitting the road 5 times a week hoping for improvement? If that is the case, then the chance of an overuse injury is going to increase massively. This is why functional training is so helpful, as it reduces chance of injury.

This is where NRG Sports Therapy are here to help. At NRG we will provide you:

  • Specific running training plan, tapering your mileage as the marathon approaches

  • Provide a gait analysis to look at any movement indiscretions you may have during running. From here we will provide corrective exercise for these issues to improve your gait and performance

  • Receive 1-1 60 minute personal training using specifically designed functional resistance training to your needs, not only to prevent injury but to also increase strength, speed and power

  • Provide Mobility drills to help release stiff joints and tight muscles for either before or after training

  • Advice on the best way to recover in between sessions alongside nutritional and supplementary guidance
